The Platte River State Fish Hatchery was established in 1928, and is known as the birthplace of the Great Lakes salmon program. This facility was converted to the state’s main salmon hatchery in 1972. This location rears Atlantic, Chinook and Coho Salmon and is the main egg-take location for Coho Salmon in the upper Great Lakes. Walleye fry are also hatched here. The Platte River State Fish Hatchery also offers educational facilities and trails which are open to the public at no charge. Please call to schedule group tours.
