Ever since the 1950ās the call of the museum has entertained adults and children alike, call of the wild is much more than just a taxidermy museum, it is a highly interactive hands on walk through with high quality exhibits. Including a record player that actually was turned into a fishing device , many different kinds of fish and other northern Michigan animals. Plus there is go karts and mini golf there too! With a large gift shop to top off your trip, call of the wild is a great stop in Gaylord Michigan, the story of the fishing box, know as a trolling box is quite interesting According to Janis Vollmer, one of the receptionists at the museum. The box was originally owned by Al Foriet and is 100% original and has not been altered. Janis explains that someone (it is unknown who) had removed many of the components of the record player leaving just the motor and the power supply, the person then added on a spindle on to the motor and thread a fishing line through it, so once the box was wound up with a key it would be hand fed into the water with bait and when a fish pulls the motor detects the tension and retracts in the line quickly reeling in the fish.
